Coalition’s reforms ‘a dog’s breakfast from the beginning’: Shadow Superannuation Minister

Shadow Superannuation Minister Stephen Jones says the federal government's superannuation reform bill is a “dog’s breakfast”. The Morrison government’s “Your future, your super” reforms, which passed the Senate on Thursday, will see employees ‘stapled’ to superfunds, preventing the duplication of accounts. Mr Jones says the bill could potentially staple Australians to underperforming funds and called on the government to help the workers who need it most. “It’s been a dog’s breakfast from the beginning,” he said. “There’s still three million Australians in high fee and underperforming funds that aren’t going to be fixed by the government’s legislation. “We’re calling on the government to extend the scope so their problems are dealt with. “If the government just does the sensible thing, extends the legislation to the people who need it the most, fixes some of these little barnacles on it, we’ll back the bill because we back the objective of high performance and low fees.”
