Confidence for air travel will come when states ‘stop these sudden lockdowns’

Australian Airports Association Chief Executive James Goodwin says the two-way trans-Tasman bubble between Australia and New Zealand is a “win for the aviation sector”. “This is a win for aviation sector to be able to get all those people back to work and it’s also a win for the consumer to be able to reconnect with family and friends,” he told Sky News. “In a safe and managed way, let’s reopen borders as we see the vaccine being rolled out and let’s do this with safe countries.” Mr Goodwin said the domestic lockdowns would need to stop if any confidence was to be instilled back in air travel and in order to spread the bubble further. “Let’s stop those sudden lockdowns of domestic borders, let’s be able to get to New Zealand, if we’re able to let’s look at other countries.” “People want to be able to fly, to reconnect with friends, relatives, and to be able to do their business but they need to be able to do that with confidence so what we feel is that as the vaccine is being rolled out that the confidence should improve and we shouldn’t see these sudden border closures.”
