Employers concerned with ‘propensity of states to shut borders at the drop of a hat’
CEO of AIG Innes Willox says things are better than they were six months ago, but employers are still concerned with "the propensity of states to shut their borders at the drop of a hat".
"Today's development increased concern on that because there was a belief once we got the vaccination process rolling, the states would be less willing and less able to do that, but we're a little bit back to square one on that," he said.
"We're seeing the concerns we've had for a very long time around skills shortages within Australia starting to emerge... this is why this call's coming out around migrants.
"We're sort of living in a gilded cage... in terms of our domestic economy we're going better than we thought we would but there are some warning lights up ahead."
