Hundreds of Afghans and Dozens of US Citizens Evacuated by US Air Force (Photo)
Hundreds of Afghans and dozens of US citizens have been evacuated from Afghanistan in recent days, according to the US Air Force, after the Taliban took control of the capital on Sunday. A photograph posted to the official social media accounts of the air force, show a crowded C-17 Globemaster III carrying evacuees from Kabul. The image began circulating in a report on Monday, claiming to show 640 people on the aircraft. However, in a statement accompanying the photograph, the US Air Force said seven flights had departed Kabul in recent days, “transporting approximately 700-800 passengers, 165 of which were American citizens.” The Air Force also said the photograph was not related to the crew that “faced a security breach on the runway”, as seen in videos circulating on social media. Evacuations in Afghanistan were ongoing as of Thursday, August 19. Credit: United States Air Force via Storyful
