Jobs restored in pandemic have been ‘wiped out’ by lockdown

The Institute of Public Affairs' Cian Hussey says the jobs restored from 2020 to 2021 have been “wiped out” due to the current Greater Sydney lockdown and more jobs are expected to be lost. “It took only 21 days of Greater Sydney being in lockdown for all of the jobs restored in the 2020-2021 financial year to be wiped out so that is the effect of lockdown in Greater Sydney,” Mr Hussey told Sky News Australia “We know that the job losses will be extended further...10,000 jobs a day and that is a real humanitarian tragedy. “We know that a lot of families all across NSW have been impacted by this, many of them haven’t had an income for some time now and many of them it’s the second or third time that they’ve been impacted by this kind of lockdown and this kind of job loss. “It really is a tragedy we’re seeing.”
