Minimum wage increase is ‘significant for the people who need it most’
Assistant Minister to the Attorney-General Amanda Stoker told Sky News the minimum wage increase is “significant for the people who need it most”.
The FairWork Commission has awarded a $18.80 a week minimum wage increase which will see the new minimum wage at $20.33 an hour or around $770 a week.
“It represents a 2.5 per cent increase in the minimum wage for about 2.2 million Australians,” Ms Stoker said.
“It reflects a balance between acknowledging that there’s some industries that have doing it really tough but also acknowledging that there’s been some really good work done by this government to get the economy firing as quickly as if possibly can post the initial COVID shock.
“And it shows that we have the drivers of wage growth in place that are there to make sure we are getting the best possible wages and the best possible opportunities to the Australians who go to work every day and do their very best”.
