Fires burning in California meant hazy, smoky conditions extended east towards Las Vegas, the National Weather Service said on August 7. Rachel Stephens was in a car driving through Death Valley National Park when she recorded this video showing the hazy conditions. Cal Fire said on August 8 that some 8,574 firefighters had been deployed against 11 major wildfires in the state.
