Thousands of Firefighters Battle Massive California Dixie Fire
More than 5,000 firefighting personnel were battling the growing Dixie Fire in California which had destroyed hundreds of structures by August 9, officials said. Footage shared by the El Dorado County Fire Protection District on Instagram shows crews fighting the flames in the Lake Almanor West area of Plumas County on August 5. The Dixie Fire, the largest single-source wildfire in California’s history, grew to 489,287 acres (about 765 square miles) by Monday, August 9, and was 21 percent contained as it burned across four counties, officials said.
