UK Olympian’s Training Base Cheers Gold Medal Win
Supporters erupted in celebration at Kate French’s training base in Bath, England, on August 6 as she took an Olympic gold medal for Great Britain in the women’s modern pentathlon final in Tokyo. Video posted by Team Bath shows people jumping for joy and clapping for French from the Pentathlon Great Britain training center at the University of Bath. Modern pentathlon incorporates five disciplines and was inspired by a 19th-century story of a French cavalry officer who had to “ride, fight with a sword, shoot, swim and run” to deliver a message, according to the International Olympic Committee. Speaking to local media in Somerset, French said: “I knew I had to focus, I knew I could do it if I just focused on my shooting and ran as hard as I could." Credit: Team Bath via Storyful
