Wildfires Burn Near Homes in Palermo
Firefighters and forestry and civil protection officials carried out 30 interventions on August 8 to combat wildfires in Palermo, Sicily, according to local media. Footage shows large flames burning foliage near a structure in Roccapalumba, in the province of Palermo. Partinico, Campofelice di Fitalia, Vicari, Roccapalumba, and Polizzi Generosa are the areas in Palermo most affected by wildfires, officials said. The Sicilian regional government declared a state of emergency on August 6, in effect for six months due to wildfires that have raged on the Italian island since the end of July.
